Wiggle Plait and Backcombing

For something that looks so complicated and confusing, this was actually surprisingly easy! You do a normal plait and when you get to the end, take the 2 ends (make sure the plait is loose) and push them up whilst keeping hold of the other send. you can then continue to do another plait and keep doing this technique until the whole length is plaited.

We also learnt how to backcomb properly, this means if it is don't correctly it will brush out with no problem at all. You simply take the section of hair you wish to backcomb and bring the comb downwards and keep doing it. You can either comb out the front section to make it tidier or even backcomb it to make it messier! You can even use a crimper by crimping the root of the hair, waiting for it to cool down and then backcomb the underneath and the crimp grabs the backcomb, this is good for someone with fine hair.

My model's design was a messy heart shaped look with a plait going down the back. I backcombed the hair using the technique we learnt in the lesson and I think it works well and looks good.

The wiggle plait wasn't in my model's design, but I wanted to add it in to practice what we have learnt as it looks so pretty!

These aren't exactly wiggle plaits but you can see how they have both incorporated similar style plaits in todays era and even in the 16th century! This goes to show that even complex plaits were still used back in the Elizabethan era and we are still using them in everyday hairstyles now.
